Earth's Buried Gate

Long before you built your first gate, someone else buried one. It still stands under the desert, whole, with a DHD that remembers where it last went.

The broken tablet

Whoever buried the gate carved where it lies into a tablet of sandstone. The tablet broke into three pieces, and each was carried somewhere else.

The Bearingwhich way to go, in degrees from north
The Distancehow far from where the world begins
The Groundwhat the place looks like

Hold a piece and use it to read what is still carved on it. Each makes sense alone; all three together give an exact spot.

Classified Where the pieces lieclick to read

In the same old places as the Ancients' broken plate, so one chest may give you a piece of each:

  • kept in a village, in any of its chests
  • brushed out of desert sand, in desert pyramids and desert wells
  • brushed out of trail ruins
  • sunk with ocean ruins

Each piece exists once per world. Once found, it turns up nowhere else.

Putting it together

Craft the three pieces together and the tablet is whole again.

The room

Every world holds one buried gate room, deep under the sand where the land is hot and dry. From above there is little to see: a sandstone step level with the dunes, and a broken stub of stone on either side of it.

A long sandstone hall under the desert, lit by braziers, with a Stargate on a dais at the far end

A long sandstone hall, left for ages: sand drifts along the walls and one corner of the roof has come in. Bronze braziers of embers are its only light. At the far end a Stargate stands whole on a dais, with a DHD before it.

The DHD before the buried gate

The DHD still holds its master crystal, a Power Crystal with 28% of its charge, and a Memory Crystal that remembers the last address it reached: Abydos. Open the DHD and dial it again from its memory.

Next: Abydos.
