Building a Gate

A gate is a ring of 16 blocks, seven wide and seven tall. You don't have to count cells: once the controller stands, the gate shows you where each piece goes.

The parts

  • 1 Stargate Controller: the bottom centre block. It decides where the gate stands and which way it faces.
  • 9 Stargate Chevrons: the lights around the ring.
  • 6 Stargate Ring Segments: the pieces between them.

All of them are made from Milky Way Gate Plating, and the controller needs a Gate Control Circuit as well.

Step by step

  1. Place the controller where the bottom of the gate should be, facing the way you want the gate to face. Leave room: the ring is seven blocks wide and seven tall, and needs clear ground in front of it.

  2. Take the 9 Chevrons in your hand and right-click the controller, once for each. An outline shows where the next one goes, and it is placed there.

  3. Do the same with the 6 Ring Segments: hold them and right-click the controller until they are all in. Don't place them by hand.

  4. When the last piece goes in, the blocks merge into one round gate.

  5. Right-click the finished controller. The gate's address appears in chat, and it is copied, ready to paste into a DHD. You will need it to dial this gate from elsewhere.

Everything for one gate: 46 plating (4 in the controller, 2 in each chevron, 4 in each ring segment) and 2 circuits. That is about 184 naquadah and 92 titanium ingots for the plating alone, so dig deep before you start.

The Pegasus gate

A Pegasus gate and its DHD

The Pegasus gate is the Ancients' other design. It stands in the same seven-by-seven ring, is built the same way, and dials the same network: Milky Way and Pegasus gates reach each other freely.

  • Its ring never turns. A light runs over its 36 fixed glyphs instead, and each locked symbol stays lit.
  • It needs a Pegasus DHD; a Milky Way DHD does not speak to it.
  • Every gate has an address in both kinds of glyphs. An address pasted into a DHD of the other kind is turned into that DHD's glyphs.
