Powering a Gate
A gate burns a lot of energy for a few seconds as the wormhole opens, and a little while it stays open. Only the gate that dials pays; the gate that answers costs nothing.
How much it takes
| What | In EU | In Forge Energy (FE) |
|---|---|---|
| Opening a wormhole in the same world | 2,000,000 EU, up to 12,500 EU/t at the end | 8,000,000 FE, up to 50,000 FE/t |
| Opening one to another dimension | four times as much, up to 50,000 EU/t | 32,000,000 FE, up to 200,000 FE/t |
| Opening one to another galaxy | forty times as much | in practice, a Zero Point Module |
| Holding it open | 256 EU/t | 1,024 FE/t |
Most of the opening cost is drawn as the last chevron locks. If the power runs out while dialing or while the wormhole is open, the gate shuts. Only the gate that dials pays.
EU and Forge Energy
Lantea counts energy in EU, the unit GregTech uses. EU/t is how much flows each game tick (twenty ticks a second).
You don't need GregTech. The gate's cable input takes Forge Energy (FE, the unit most tech mods use, also called RF) from any mod's cables, at 4 FE = 1 EU. Lantea's own generators and cable run on Forge Energy too, so they plug into other mods' machines as well. With GregTech installed, the gate also takes its EU cables directly.
Your first power setup
Build two Naquadah Generators Mark I. One gives 8,192 EU/t, not enough to open a gate; two on the same cable are.
Put a Naquadah Fuel Cell into each. Right-click a generator to open its panel. A full cell holds 50,000,000 EU.
Fit a Coupler Kit to the gate. A gate takes no cable until it wears one: right-click the finished controller with the kit.
Run Power Cable from the generators to the kit's junction, behind or under the controller.
Already have power from another mod? Skip the generators: any Forge Energy cable into the kit's junction works, as long as it brings 50,000 FE/t while a gate opens to a place in the same world.

Naquadah Generator Mark II
Gives up to 65,536 EU/t, enough to open any wormhole on its own, even to another dimension. It runs close to overload: the same cell holds the same energy, but it is gone far faster.

Zero Point Module
An Ancient power cell with 2 trillion EU. Put it in the back of a DHD and the gate needs no cable at all. It never recharges and cannot be crafted. See Zero Point Modules.
Which source is used first
A gate with several sources draws on them in this order. When one fails, the next takes over at once.
- a Power Crystal in its DHD
- a ZPM Hub within 64 blocks (the nearest first)
- a Control Chair within 64 blocks that still has power (the one that dialed first)
- the ZPM in its DHD
- its cables
A wormhole into another galaxy takes zero point modules only: in the DHD, in a hub, or in the chair that dials. A Power Crystal and cables do not reach that far.
