Never seen Stargate? You don't need to. This page tells you what a Stargate is, what you do with one in Lantea, and where to start.

A finished Milky Way Stargate under the northern lights

What is a Stargate?

A Stargate is a huge stone-and-metal ring. When you dial another gate's address, the ring opens a wormhole to that gate: a shimmering, water-like surface called the event horizon. Walk into it and you step out of the other gate a few seconds later, however far away it is, even in another dimension.

The gates were built long ago by a people called the Ancients. They left more behind than the gates: an outpost frozen under the ice, a chair that steers swarms of drones, and power cells called Zero Point Modules. Finding those is the second half of the mod.

Words you will meet

WordWhat it means
AddressA short row of symbols (glyphs) that names one gate. Every gate has its own.
GlyphOne symbol of an address. Each is a small star pattern.
ChevronThe nine lights around the ring. One lights up (locks) for every symbol you dial.
DHDDial Home Device: the console with the glyph keys that you dial on. It stands near the gate.
Point of originThe symbol of the world you dial from. It is always the last one you press.
KawooshThe violent burst of energy that shoots out of the gate as the wormhole opens. It kills.
NaquadahThe metal the gates are made of. You mine it.
ZPMZero Point Module: an Ancient power cell with nearly endless energy.

The guide in the game

Lantea carries its own book, the Stargate Field Manual. Install the Patchouli mod and every player gets it on their first join; it is also crafted from a book and a redstone dust. It says the same as this wiki, in shorter form, right where you need it.
