The Broken Plate

Somewhere in your world the Ancients left an outpost. They wrote down where it is on a thin stone plate, and the plate broke into three pieces.

The three pieces

The Bearingwhich way to go, in degrees from north
The Distancehow far from where the world begins
The Groundwhat the place looks like

Hold a piece and use it to read what is still on it. Each one makes sense alone, but only all three together give an exact spot.

Where they turn up

The pieces lie in the oldest places people still go to. Open chests and brush old sand as you explore, and one may turn up.

  • kept in a village: every chest inside a village's buildings has its own chance, so each one is worth opening
  • brushed out of desert sand, in desert pyramids and desert wells
  • brushed out of trail ruins
  • sunk with ocean ruins

Each piece exists once per world. Once it has been found, it turns up nowhere else, and only the pieces still missing can be found.

Putting it together

Craft the three pieces together and the plate is whole again.

Use the whole plate and it gives the x, y and z of the way in. It points at a patch of snow over a ladder: clear that one block and climb down.
