Control Crystals
Crystals are how a DHD learns new tricks. It needs one to work at all, and takes two more as upgrades.
The three slots
Right-click a DHD from behind to open its back panel.
- Master slot: takes the Master Control Crystal. Without it the DHD does nothing.
- Two auxiliary slots: each takes one upgrade crystal, never two of the same kind.
Every crystal starts as a Blank Control Crystal (amethyst, quartz and glass).
The upgrades

| Power | The DHD's own cold fusion core, 2,000,000,000 EU. With it the DHD opens and holds wormholes within its galaxy with nothing else, and it pays before any other source. It cannot be made, never recharges, and keeps its charge wherever it goes. It cannot open a wormhole into another galaxy. | Found only in DHDs already standing in the world |
| Range | A DHD reaches every world of its own galaxy without it. What it will do is still to come. | Not yet |
| Intergalactic | Lets the DHD dial an eighth chevron: another galaxy. Opening such a wormhole takes 40 times the usual energy, and only zero point modules pay for it. | Late game, with a ZPM |
| Memory | Remembers the DHD's last 8 wormholes. Open the DHD to see them and redial one with a single press. | Travelling back and forth |
| Wormhole Stabilizer | Lets a wormhole stay open twice as long. Past the usual 38 minutes, holding it open costs 2.5% more every minute. | Long expeditions |
| Hold | Keeps the wormhole open to its limit, even after everyone has gone through, instead of letting it close a few seconds later. | Moving lots of things through |
| Security | Right-click it to write player names on it. Fitted in a DHD, only those players may dial, and only whoever fitted it may take anything out. With no names, only whoever fitted it may dial. | Servers |
